Regarding Fakes: I have seen a cheaper version for sale online on eBay/amazon/etc. Why should I buy yours?
We are the ORIGINAL. We spent years testing and developing the 24 Volt Mod™. Last year we lost a part supplier and thought we were not going to be able to continue to manufacture the 24 Volt Mod™. During this time some people looked at the opportunity to make money off our product by making a fake version and selling it for a fast buck. These versions are not rated to handle 24 volts. These units could over heat and cause fire or damage to your guitar. These knock off units will also not fit inside a guitar battery box. The battery holder they use for these knock offs are made for a type N battery that is only rated for 1.5 volts per side. The old saying is "you get what you pay for". We have spent years and thousands of dollars testing and developing this product and we stand behind our product and commitment to safety. Don't risk your safety or damage to your equipment by using a product made by someone only looking to make a quick buck off of our hard work. We receive messages constantly about these fakes being defective or causing damage. Some are fakes aren't even putting out the desired 24 volts as they have been wired poorly. We have had a few sent to us for inspection and we recommend you stay away from these amateur products that use our name and descriptions. These products give our product a bad name. Please be advised that while we do have a legal team to handle knock offs, this process takes time.
What is the 24 Volt Mod™?
The 24 Volt Mod™ is made for active electric guitar and bass pickups.
It is very easy to use. Instead of plugging in a 9 volt battery, just replace the battery with the 24 volt mod. It is really that simple and requires no modification to your guitar or bass!
But what does it do?
It provides increased voltage to your active guitar or bass pickups. Whereas a 9 volt battery provides 9 Volts to your pickups, the 24 Volt Mod™ pushes the limits and provides 24 Volts to your pickups. This increases headroom, tonal response and attack. You will immediately notice a difference.
How does it differ from the 18 Volt mod or using two 9 Volt batteries?
Using the 18 volt mod or dual 9 volt batteries requires a lot of extra space inside your guitar cavity and you may even have to modify your guitar or wiring.
The 24 Volt Mod™ requires no extra space because it is smaller than a standard 9 volt battery and since you just plug it into your guitar like you would a 9 volt, it requires no modifications. Also it provides more voltage so you get even more responsiveness and headroom from the 24 Volt Mod™.
Why would I want to increase the voltage?
There are a lot of good reasons you may want to increase your voltage.
With increased voltage you get better attack and tonal response. Increased voltage also adds extra headroom. Headroom is the normal operating volume your pickups can produce before they begin to distort. Increased headroom is great for clean tones, as Active pickups tend to hit their maximum headroom with clean tones at a lower volume than passive pickups.
But my guitar uses a 9 volt battery. Won't 24 volts damage my pickups? Is it safe to use?
The 24 Volt Mod™ is perfectly safe for MOST guitar pickups but use caution if in doubt. You can always contact us. Contact us if you have questions about compatibility with your pickups. We are working on testing even more pickups in the future and adding a compatibly list to the website. The 24 Volt Mod™ has been tested through the years with almost every guitar and bass pickup on the market with the exception of a few newer models. Most guitar pickups can handle up to 27 volts so the 24 volt mod provides voltage under the threshold of the pickups limits. The only pickups that have ever had issues using the 24 Volt Mod™ are active pickups from the 80's and 90's that were generic in name or were manufactured by guitar makers as their own brand of active pickups. We have tested it with all EMG, Seymour Duncan, Dragon Fire & Red Active Guitar and bass pickups.
It is NOT Recommended for Guitars or Basses that have
Active EQ, Active Tone Control or Active on board effects (FX).*
Not recommended for acoustic guitars.
Not recommended for use inside effects (fx) pedals.
*EMG PA2 and active preamps are ok to use with the 24 Volt Mod™
How long do the batteries last compared to 9 volts?
Results vary depending on how long and how much you play, but our average calculation seems to be 2-3 months playing a few hours a day.
Where can I purchase additional batteries?
We sell additional batteries here on our website. You can also find these batteries (type 23A) at almost any place that sells batteries.
What is the best brand of batteries to use?
Really it is more of a personal choice. During our development and testing, we also tested every brand of battery we could find. We compared cost of batteries vs life expectancy and found the batteries we currently offer with the unit to be the best value in terms of price and longevity vs other name brand batteries. However many people do use and prefer name brand batteries. We have tested them all and our batteries last almost as well as more expensive batteries.
Will this work with 7,8,9, or 10 String Guitars or Bass Guitars?
Yes it works well with most active bass pickups.
Will this work with Seymour Duncan Blackouts, EMG, or active single coil pickups?
Yes it works well with Blackouts and active single coil pickups by EMG, Seymour Duncan or Dragon Fire. Use caution with lessor known active pickups or contact us for compatibility information.
Is this product endorsed by: A,B,C company name?
No. We are an independent developer. We are guitar players. We designed and manufacture the 24 Volt Mod ™.
Is this just for Hard rock or Heavy Metal?
No. Not at all. The 24 Volt Mod™ is great for any genre of music and for anyone who uses active electric guitar pickups. Music style does not matter. You will get the same great benefits from any active pickups no matter what style of music you play.
Can I use the 24 Volt Mod™ inside effects pedals?
No. Never use your 24 Volt Mod™ in any effects pedals. Effects pedals are only rated for a 9 Volt power supply and it may cause damage or harm to your pedals. It is perfectly safe to use a 24 Volt Mod™ inside your guitar / bass and still use your effects pedals.
